History

Rabbi Benjamin Fisher, Founder & Director – Guided by the vision of Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach, ztl, Rabbi Benjamin Fisher founded Magen Lacholeh in 1991. At the young age of 18, Rabbi Fisher, then a student at Yeshivas Kol Torah, visited a seriously ill friend in the hospital and spent a few months at his bedside. While assisting his friend, Rabbi Fisher developed an excellent rapport with the staff. Thanks to his sharp mind and ability to grasp issues quickly, Rabbi Fisher was able to obtain a great deal of medical knowledge from them. This special relationship led another family to turn to Rabbi Fisher when they found themselves in a similar situation.

As Rabbi Fisher’s understanding of medicine increased, so did the number of families who contacted him for assistance. At the end of 1991, Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach, ztl, approached Rabbi Fisher and asked him to establish a formal organization to help families in need of medical assistance.

Today Rabbi Fisher is fulfilling Rabbi Auerbach’s directive, helping thousands of people in Israel and all around the world gain access to the best medical care available.
